Dr. Brian Paul, Optometrist has had an interest in optometry from a very young age, having received strabismus (crossed eye) surgery at age 2. He grew up in Thornhill, Ontario, and always knew he wanted to pursue a career in optometry. Dr. Paul received an Honours Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences degree with a minor in Biology from the University of Waterloo in 2007. While attending the University of Waterloo, Dr. Paul volunteered and then worked at the TLC Vision Centers in both Waterloo and Toronto. Dr. Paul went on to complete his Doctorate of Optometry in 2011, graduating top of his class at NOVA Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He completed externships at a cataract surgery centre in Boca Raton and with a private practitioner, specializing in contact lenses. He also completed rotations in Vision Therapy and children’s vision clinics.
After graduating in 2011, Dr. Paul moved to Dundas, Ontario, and began practicing full scope optometry at the Brantford Medical Centre. While in Brantford, Dr. Paul regularly lectured to patients at the Diabetes Education Centre at the Brantford General Hospital about how diabetes affects the eyes. In 2013, he spoke at the Southern Ontario Stroke and Traumatic Brain Injury Conference about the importance of optometrists and eye examinations in patient rehabilitation. Dr. Paul helped launch the Eye See… Eye Learn program in Brantford in 2013. He has been a Board Director of the Ontario Association of Optometrists since 2014.
Dr. Paul has a passion for learning and new technology. When he is not working, Dr. Paul enjoys running, mountain biking, and spending time with his wife, Shauna, his son, Zachary, and their dog, Isaac.
